Port Townsend

The Wilder Permaculture Plant Nursery

To support Permaculture education outreach efforts and bring a whole lot more food to the area, the Institute has launched a "Permaculture All-Star Nursery" to make available a wide variety of edible perennial plants. These include the most delicious, productive and disease-resistant fruits, nuts, berries, fungi, and bamboos. Alongside apples, pears, peaches, cherries, elderberries, hazelnuts, and chestnuts, get ready to wow your taste buds with pawpaw, goumi, sea berry, Chilean guava, akebia, butternuts, shitakes, mitakes, mulberries, and many other delicious edibles.

The Wilder Nursery is offering a special "Nuts for Neighborhood Fruits" (or "Fruits for Neighborhood Nuts", depending on your specific palate) - purchase $500 worth of plants with your neighbors and the nursery will deliver at no additional cost, assist with installation, and teach a short workshop about the plants.

You can purchase plants:

  • Saturdays at the Farmer's Market
  • Sundays at the Food Coop
  • By appointment onsite at Frog Hill Farm.

The Wilder Institute of Sustainable Design

INCUBATING JOBS IN SUSTAINABLE DESIGN: Recognizing that the Port Townsend area has considerable talent and design skills already in place, and that the county has a vested interest in attracting and retaining youth, The Wilder Institute is planning a comprehensive year-round curriculum for credit at universities, practical vocational permaculture skills for high school students, and ongoing continuing adult education, thereby putting our community on the map as a hub of sustainable design.

We are actively looking for a site to house the Institute, putting together private and public partners, and launching a fundraising campaign in the summer of 2006. If you would like to get involved, please contact us directly.
